A proper setup is the most cost-effective upgrade you can make to your guitar. It doesn't change the instrument — it finally lets it perform the way it was designed to.
What a full setup includes
- Truss rod relief: correct neck relief is the foundation everything else is built on.
- String action: low enough for comfortable playing, high enough that no fret buzzes.
- Intonation: so the guitar plays in tune all the way up the neck, not just in open position.
- Pickup height: the distance from the strings determines output, dynamics, and clarity.
- Fret and nut check: worn frets or a poorly cut nut will undermine even the best setup.
When you need one
With every change of season, whenever you switch to a different string gauge, or when something just feels off — fretting out, intonation problems up the neck, stiff or heavy action.
If your guitar has never been to a technician, the first setup is usually the most dramatic transformation you'll experience. Send us photos and a description for a cost estimate.
